So the Market is Essentially a Casino, Right?

Basically what happened last week in meme stocks convinced me that the trading market is basically just a type of casino...

Everybody knows that the odds are stacked in the houses favor, AND THAT IS OK. We choose to participate knowing this full and well.

BUT, I didn't realize that if a little guy walks in and starts taking big money from the house (Market Makers)...dudes in suits show up and escort you out of the building (eliminate buying power)...then call their friends and blackball you across town.

how far off am I here?
 
very far off.

the market is not a casino its an opportunity to invest in companies and participate in the long term growth or lack thereof, of that company and its future prospects.

example: steve jobs rejoins apple, i think jobs is a genius, i buy apple stock and hold
for 20 years and make a ton of money.

simple., not complicated, not rigged, not a casino.

I don't know if I'd blame the market makers. They aren't the evil empire. Someone needs to take the other side of a retail trade and they are obligated to always buy and sell. The earn the spread and whatever they make gamma scalping their positions. I don't know about massive conspiracy anymore. Just thinking firms have to comply with the clearing corps and for the viability of their book and business they can raise margin and put people on closing only who most likely didn't have the capital for the risk they were in. Maybe I'm too optimistic. I mean it's a squeeze those in early and cashed out made stacks. The short hedge funds that had too big of positions blew out. Seems the capital changed hands for the most part.

don't bother about the little guy taking big money.
don't bother about the dudes in suits.

Just look at the charts.

In fact, the manipulated market is good for traders.
Don't bother whether it is manipulated by hedge fund managers,
Reddit users, brokers, or whatever.
The manipulated market provides trading opportunities.
Be thankful to the manipulators (legit or illegal or whatever ).

I agree that the opportunity is still there and i appreciate what that means. Just being able to participate and such a wonderful thing is truly a blessing.

Any experienced trader would have predicted the reaction from the brokerages and profited nicely. The newbs just got their first lesson in a long list of lessons about trading.
