It's competitive pricing.
If the cost of something goes up due to inflation you can either increase your costs or your can start making parts out of plastic instead of metal and hope your customers don't care or don't notice. Obviously there are limits...a plastic engine isn't much good :)

The cost didn't go up due to inflation. The cost of the cows dropped 50 bux per lot simply because of the demand issue. Processing plants closing, people not being able to eat beef at restaurants, etc. The packers were at war with the producers. And the packers have won. Producers are being forced to liquidate their herd while the packers (and thus the retailers) profit out the ass.
