But I really don't know much about this stuff. I refuse to downgrade in any way, but is there really a big difference between 120Hz and 240Hz? The price difference is surprising.

Btw, he had a 50 inch Panasonic plasma, about 2 years old.

I'm thinking about a 60 inch smart tv. But I'm wondering about what potholes to avoid.

After reading your post, and the first half of the article, I am assuming the reason for the price difference is for people who want the newest and the best, regardless of the cost. I have a buddy like that. Constantly buying the newest and brightest, just so he can say he has the newest and brightest. Irritating, but it's fun to watch him spend money unnecessarily.

I like the idea of a smart TV. I'm not a gamer, so I'm not going to get an xbox or a wii. I will occasionally hook up my laptop via hdmi for netflix. But the laptop won't always be there.

Why not get another Panasonic plasma? Beautiful picture and refresh rates aren't an issue as they are with LCD/ LED tv.
 
Good point. I loved that TV. (before I destroyed it with an elbow) But I was thinking smart TV for the convenience of netflix, etc. Maybe it's not worth it to go smart right now.

Gee, thanks so much. Didn't think of that.

I called him right after it happened, and he said "Dude, don't worry about it. It's a tv. Start shopping and let me know what you come up with."

Btw, he was in the left seat in the cockpit of a Southwest 737 and about to pull back from the gate when I made that call. Not a lot of time to talk.

But thanks for the suggestion.
