Snapchat ipo, worth $25 billion "may never achieve or maintain profitability."

As a developer in tech, I can say while the filters look real simple to the end user, there's a significant amount of technical expertise and skill behind the development of it.

Before you guys shoot down programming as a career choice, I'd suggest you try and code something that sells. Oh wait this is ET, where everyone makes a million by lunch.

Hum, not by lunch! BEFORE breakfast! ;=)

... The same what Facebook did with all the money. Maybe they hire a bunch of AI specialists and voila, you have a new "disrupter" on a grand scale. Facebook is imho a shit concept and people will wake up one day and realize how much time of their lives they wasted on FB. Younger than millenials are already less than excited about FB. Yet FB bought WhatsApp (in Hongkong where I live, life for most would be impossible without WhatsApp,it has one of the world's highest penetration here). FB is very engaged on the AI side as well.

In summary, a shaky base product (imho), and management knows it's temporary, and they are rushing to invest all that money in other areas.

Same could happen with Snap. Who knows. Key will be management vision. Whether they have another Bezos or not

Actually, Facebook is the best thing that could have happened to the intelligence community. Free information about your LIFE, YOUR KIDS, YOUR FRIENDS, YOUR BUSINESS, YOUR BUSINESS FRIENDS and lot more. All on ONE PLATFORM. With words of Mastercard: PRICELESS!

I have all those...never use Pinterest but only cause to look at something it made me link to it. Have had Facebook since 06' but use less than ever. Twitter is worthless but Stocktwits is entertaining. I use both Snapchat and Instagram daily as well as don't mind the ads. Twitter too said it might never be profitable but that didn't stop it from popping. Uber has worse financials and valued at almost twice of Snap. I agree it is vastly overvalued...Tumblr was too and now I believe Yahoo has written it off. On a side note, Evan is engaged to Miranda Kerr, VS Supermodel, so that guy is a deity to nerds everywhere.haha

You have to wonder where the cannibalization in online advertising will lead to. Can't imagine we won't see that.

Sure if you believe the conspiracy theories that all those data are readily available to the intelligence community.

How many here have a
Facebook account
Twitter
Instagram
Snapchat
Pinterest

Here's a deeper question...How many here have ever purchased a product based on the advertisements they see on those apps?
