Slope of an EMA

Quote from ModifiedBear:

I was just working on a simple back test just because I was curious.

At first I tried changing the 'slope threshold' and seeing if yearly returns were correlated. And just judging from my observation, the results on that seem pretty random, but there are a lot of variables to test. I think its an interesting idea

Yes. There are a lot of variables to consider:

For example, the AbsValue( slope ) of the 20-period EMA of a one-minute can be below the threshold to be qualified as a strong trend. Yet, the ADX of the five-minute chart can be above 55. ( Unless the setting is really weird, an ADX above 55 should be considered as a strong trend. ) This happened to CLG3 few days ago.

Just consider the slope of an EMA in a single timeframe may not be enough to decide whether price is trending strongly. :)

Hi,

The slope or angle of an EMA depends ....................

What is the most popular way to quantify the "steepness" of an EMA or a trendline objectively ?

Any comment or suggestion would be appreciated. :)

Good question;
its more helpful to test the numbers on many time frame///large time frames.EMA//ma of most any kind is helpful , not the slope.But feel free to find that out yourself=good trends go more than i forcast.

None of this is a prediction;
but its a high probability trends go further than i think .....
I study trends a lot.LOL:D
