Skipping the brokerage and going directly to the clearing firm

A trader on here presented me w/ an idea of skipping the brokerage and routing your orders I guess from a clearing firm?

How exactly does that work?
Do you receive leverage in this type of deal?
Do clearing firms have APIs?
 
This works well in the futures busines but does not really exist in the equity/options world. All the large clearing firms what an aggregator handling the support and covering the stupid questions and bullshit that they do not want to deal with
