Sites that provide historical daily data for stocks and indices?

I used to get just daily (day by day) historical stock data in .csv format with ease from sites like yahoo and google finance for free. But it seems recently they've stopped this service and any historical data displayed is either in chart form or displayed in short increments forcing you to click "next" to get the next set of data, which turns out to be impractical if you want the entire historical set. I've looked around online and could not believe that some private vendors charge thousands of $ for daily historical data going back several decades....Not intraday mins or hours...but DAILY DATA!

So what sites are there that still provide free daily data for stocks and indices? I know that the FRED database does but they only do for some major indices.
 
You may want to read the below also but I think you can find historical data on Guru Focus and the EPS on Investor Business Daily. To me, Yahoo is damaging their really only well run section Yahoo Finance. There was also a second website that provided historical data for free, but it no longer does and I do not recall the name. If anybody knows where to find the growth numbers and % of a companies past history I would like to know.
This is great point and mind boggling. I asked this question on a different forum, but I don't think the kid understood what I was looking for. I wanted: p/e, eps and most important for me ROC. I would even accept the last three years in a percentage to see if the company was moving in a direction I wanted to see. The person said just check out their annual report but I did not see it there. With the Plethora of free data I would think many websites would do this just as a service AND from the advertisers they could charge.

Yeah, this is the year 2017. You can't even pull a live stock quote for FREE on the internet (not talking about the sites you have to visit to get a live quote, but being able to query a quote server). It would be okay if this was like 1990's when the net just got launched... Way to go technology and society advancement!

Best to print, [ink] by hand or color candle-chart print your own monthly, weekly.....; barchart.com has some free , volume may not be the most accurate. Many brokers have usable charts; wisdom is profitable to direct.......................................................................................Good question,NX7

I can understand why historical intraday data is so expensive because the file sizes are so large in the megabyte or gigabyte ranges. But charging thousands of $ for 30 years of DAILY data which generally have file sizes of just a few KILOBYTES is frankly just daylight robbery.

Good points; its a wonder daily, weekly+ monthly date does not cost more -its more profitable for many.
