To me this incident perfectly captures the sneering condecension of the left and the ironic lack of support for it. George W. Bush may not have been a great president, but he has a degree from Yale and an MBA from Harvard. McCartney is apparently what the Brits term a school-leaver, ie a high school dropout. Bush was one of the best-read presidents in history. His wife was a former librarian, making McCartney's remarks even more incomprehensible. Bush was known to read several books a week, even as president. He and Karl Rove competed to see who could read the most books. Obama? He plays a lot of golf and basketball and takes a lot of vacations.
I find this whole episode sad. McCartney now joins the long list of dim-witted celebrities who try to curry favor with idiotic attacks on the opposition. Perhaps he was trying to show off for his 30-something girlfriend. Moreover, it was a monumental faux pas for a foreign dignitary to crudely attack a U. S. President while performing in the White House. McCartney owes Bush, Obama and the American people a heartfelt apology, not one of those PR-firm drafted "if anyone happened to be ofended by my remarks.." fake apologies.
