Single large monitor - practical?

A single display unit is probably more energy efficient also and delivers better ergonomics when you combine it with one of those sit-and-stand desks that everyone is getting into. There's a lot of compelling reasons to buy one right now IMO.
 
Cool, I'll give it a try. What's the real estate equivalent of 3 x 21" (I guess I can solve for it from the size ratios but I am too lazy)
 
Same as the other guy, I got a 40" 4K mounted on a swinging arm.

It's the equivalent res of 4 1080 panels, so I figured the seamlessness would be slicker, although I've downloaded solutions for tiling.

No XBox, but it's right next to my bed, so a lot of gorgeous Netflix.

Little pricey but pretty awesome. You wouldn't have to worry about tiling as it can use 4 inputs from your graphics card basically giving you the same functionality as 4 monitors.

I personally have never liked my pc hooked to a tv. I also play some video games on my pc and the colours and refresh rates never seemed to be as crisp on the tv's around the house. Sure if it was colour calibrated it might work but I've always been a monitor guy.

If you are used to 3x21"s and want more real estate you'd hate working off of 1 big screen even if it's 4k. I am using a 27" 1440p gaming monitor in the center and 2 24" 1200p monitors on the sides. Price tag about 1k. Aesthetically it looks great as the bezels and screens line up almost perfectly keeping my OCD at bay and you get all the pixels you will ever need to cover your vol curves :)

I've never been a fan of multiple monitors. I prefer one single large one. That used to be 19,then 24, now 27 but I'm very adaptable. I can analyze charts and excecute just fine off of a 5.3" iPhone screen or my 10" 2 in 1. k.i.s.s.
 
I had five foot screen once, got rid of it in 2 months, was messing up my eyes too much, big does not mean best, made my eyes even more tired than the 32 inch screens was using. Now what works best in 17 inch laptops. Then might be heavy, suck up juice, but I can take my entire office anywhere on luggage carriers. Yea the 3440 x 1440 is so nice, I finally bought 2 replacement laptops that have more stuff on them that I will ever need, but the 3440x1440 doesn't tire out my eyes now.

@Baron, so what you are really saying is, you want us to be able to see it in our face coming at 'ya, the PnL number.

Normal monitor = PnL -$2000

4K monitor sitting really close = PnL -$2000

Think I will stick with green monochrome monitors. They are less insulting. lol!
 
I have three 4k TVs. Two, 39" and 42", hooked up to computers. The 55" will be hooked up to my next computer. I am a programmer and I would never go back to multiple monitors. There is no difference between the quality of the new TVs and monitors for text and charts. They may not be good enough for games, but I don't play games. 42" 4k TVs go for around $250 now. My 55" was $340 and that has built in Wi-Fi and Roku. As an added bonus, my i7 CPUs drive 4k just fine, no graphics card required.

Okay, what is the down side. These computers are pretty much not expandable. There is only a 300 watt power supply. The motherboard has only one expansion slot which does not have enough room for a large graphics card. I had to buy a m.2 expansion card (very cheap) to add my second hard drive. There goes all of the expansion possible. Just turns out that is exactly what I need for programming and running trading software.
Just thinking and looking at my 55" sitting there, I have started to think my other monitors are too small. Oh well, my son wants to build a new AMD Ryzen computer this summer. Maybe we will hook it up to the 55".
 
The multi monitor thing is a throwback to days before high res large monitors. They are an anachronism and no longer needed.

In 1998, I spent $7500 for this from MASS and the predator video cards.
