The carbon cycle is the basis for life on this planet. Everything you eat, breath and the majority of the energy comes from the carbon cycle. You mismanage the cycle, you die (well, may be not you specifically because you are smart enough to move or adapt, but some life on earth that couldn't adapt will die).
