Quote from Cheese:
How little people know about themselves. Signs of who we are and our achievements are central to human civilization. The species, human kind, is a 'parading' animal. Through cars, houses, boats, clothes, prizes and much else the 'parading' need is worked all the time by almost all people. Together we like the 'parading' phenomenon in social interaction and position, street parades, military uniforms, celebrations and many more ways.
Reminds me of when I had just graduated boot camp. All these kids were away from home and having a steady paycheck for the first time. I remember seeing how many of them would blow every last cent (not to mention those "savvy" enough to have credit cards) on "bling", electronics, cell phone accessories, expensive clothes, etc. They would all walk around trying to imporess each other and pretend they were rappers or rich or whatever. I remember back then I compared human beings to peacocks and other animals that try to impress the opposite sex with bright flashy things. That realization has stuck with me since that day. Pretty funny when you think about it.
