Was oil present in amounts that justified drilling? Seems strange that drilling is going at record levels just about anywhere there is a good chance at a find, and 'Bama gets singled out. Any politicians in Al. complaining? The state is getting hurt also by not collecting the big royalty revenues other states. like Tx, La and Alaska get from their oil production.

People refuse to build new refiners because commodities like oil and gasoline are deep cyclicals. Gasoline prices could get chopped in half in a heartbeat once global recession rears it's head. Energy companies comprise 20% of the S&P500. Coupled with recession, all the major indexes would also get rocked in the process. Hit the tripwire. Capital markets would go into full bear mode, and the population would experience rampant unemployment and the economy, zero growth.

I wonder if the public would be happy then, with cheap gas prices.

the Oil Administration continues to remain quiet on these soaring "at the pump" prices,

and the most important factor is these price increases are not correlated to supply whatsoever.......

The Oil Administration is currently blabbing away about puttinng in token and ineffective sums of money into alternative energy ...with a focus on the longest term solutions...

And this of course only after the Iraq $25 premium...Iran $15 premium...and Venezuela $x premium...

What a fiasco...Bush Cheney....I smell jail time...

What is evident and apparent to all onlookers is their approach with this Oil Administration is talk, as you outlined.

That allows for this fiasco of excess to continue unabated.

The Oil Administration has done more to protect the environment and curb urban sprawl than any other administration in history. Pretty soon, no one will be able to afford to drive their gas-guzzling SUV.
