Shroud Of Turin Determined From Time Of Jesus

Quote from MarketMasher:

I think the shroud is an interesting thing - in how it affects people's response....

Because for "the faithful", they don't really need the shroud - that is the paradox of having faith....

But for those who don't believe - it is a dangerous piece of linen.

Because what would it mean to those? For those who already believe, it would be "Oh, yeah - I believed already..."

And if conclusively proven false - it doesn't affect their faith anyway.

But for the others, it can only be "No. No way. No matter what!"

So an interesting exercise is to speculate - what if it were proven beyond a doubt to be real? What would happen to the ones who still don't believe because their world system won't allow it?

Interesting to speculate on..... :D
That's exactly it. :D

Odd that science cannot explain it and what science cannot explain: for some that means it doesn't exist.

Funny how they expect all knowledge to show up somewhere in a peer reviewed journal article, as if all potential discoveries were already known.

I haven't read about the shroud in years and cannot claim that I believe it's Jesus's nevertheless it's quite mysterious in it's own right.

I mean of all things to have a curious unexplained image on it ,it's not known as:
the blanket of gautama

the shawl of fatima
the tie dye of john lenin
the pajama's of mao or ho chi minh
the tunic of vlad lenin
the dirty sheet of abe lincoln
the quilt of marx

What part of "the shroud was 'repaired in the Middle Ages' do you not understand? The C-14 dating would be consistent with carbon dating of that material. And, yes as soot from the fire were contaminating the strands burnt for the test, it would alter the testing also.

Furthermore, the infrared study referred to in the OP is a refined methodology and the date range given can be considered to be accurate. The dates fall on either side of the time of Christ and are accurate.

I won't bother giving you any references since you have none that are reliable to support your claims, nor do you present any.

Here: http://www.shroud.com/nature.htm Now READ!

You could have looked this up yourself. You will see that the sample taken was appropriate and there is no question of "contamination" affecting the results.

Wrong again! That paper doesn't answer sample area and other problems with that analysis adequately including the smoke permeation throughout the shroud.

And, the more recent dating cannot be ignored in light of the facts and the improvements made in the technology.

Maybe you should learn to do a little further research about the problems of the earlier C-14 tests on your own before blindly closing your eyes. Everything on the Internet isn't black and white.

You could have looked this up yourself!!! Read this and learn. :D

And then you completely ignore the pollen tests that indicated the grains of pollen were from the area around Jerusalem and dated earlier than the C-14 test results date.

That pretty much proves my point. And, if you had bothered to read the links I provided above, you would know there is more mentioned that the wiki page doesn't even touch on.

Typical Easter madness. Every year, around March or April, there’s always a new and amazing “discovery” to date back this medieval relic to the time of Jesus. However, this time I don’t even have to waste my time to reply to shroudologists: the Turin cardinal himself has declared that these latests tests are absolutely meaningless: http://www.ansa.it/web/notizie/post...nessun-serio-valore-nuovi-studi-_8469741.html

Thus spake the cardinal
