Not looking to engage in a pissing match here. I started this thread to explore the idea of Trump stepping down and possibly finding a viable replacement for him.
It is astonishing to see otherwise intelligent people cling to the current offerings along party lines when there are exceptional alternatives who may be available.
Seriously, an 80 year old dementia patient (Or soon will be) or a guy who totally mishandled the pandemic, among other things?
I'm Canadian all I've seen is Americans electing useless guys like Bush Jr. and Trump and take a long, long time to realize it's not working out.
The problem of our electoral process is that it is easily highjacked by big money special interests through corporate lobbyists and associated political and advertising spending. US politicians and our media are loyal to those provide the majority of their wealth at the expense of voters interests. The formula for success in US politics is to be more convincing to voters than your competition that you will put voters interests ahead of all others. In other words, being a more skilled liar is the key to political success.
By the way, most US Citizens know at some level or other the preceeding is the case.
In Canada, we have our own value system and trying to garner massive personal wealth isn't our main priority. For many Americans, they are getting totally screwed by this American quest for massive riches. Canadians are enjoying real measurable improvements in our country in many areas the last 30 years.
A child raised by a single parent who uses a TV as a babysitter has adversely affected our value systems. The US has a lot of single parent households, for a long time. Look at US sitcoms, for example. Imagine a young child looking at that sort of programming for six hours or whatever per day as they grow up. Disfunctional priorities promoted and American Dream propaganda in order to keep some productive lay the foundation for a lot of future adult behavior. I have seen Canadian TV programming. It tends to be positive and community based.
I'm just going to say you like many Americans are totally lost in politics and one crisis after another and can't see there us a better way out there. Occasionally, I bring up concrete facts where there are massive holes in the American system and maybe a look at the Canadian system or elsewhere might be worth a look. But many American's still think they have the best of everything how dare you suggest we change at all. It is what it is; if things were great in the US a virus wouldn't have killed 130,000 Americans in 3 months.
I am unable to dispute your assertion except I’m probably not quite as lost you may believe. The question is what are US citizens going do about our electorial deficiencies? I am proposing competence in leadership through Ben Carson, yet I have yet to hear counter proposals or solid support why things are just fine the way they are. I suppose being set in ones ways is less mentally taxing, but systemic change and personal growth will not be forthcoming.
Perhaps the first step is recognizing there is a problem...
One of our main concerns short term is keeping Americans out of our country. We just aren't seeing enough rational response to the virus and have to protect our situation best we can.
Yes, but I am not the only one who is aware of “Special border crossing services” across a certain lake into Canada...!
