Should I sell covered call or cut loss?

And if he had , say e.g $VRTX, he would not need to worry.

Why wouldn't he worry about VRTX. If an announcement like the one in Oct can tank the stock why couldn't that happen again? What is it they say: "There is never just one cockroach"
Why take the risk?

Nope. I only have to look at a chart to see that there was some news that caused traders to sell off. I don't have to know why.
But that's the key deaddog isn't it.

Big difference between CEO running away with monies into thai jungles & ,,VRTX got $2 Million fine for missing deadline'' / whatever.

Might be that OP's news feed is full of really dangerous articles, like the first example, thus, shouldn't be in those biotechs in first place.
(especially if those were fundamental garbage)

The point I was attempting to make is you should cut your losses quickly.
I doesn't make any difference whether it's a intra day trade or a swing trade.
It shouldn't depend on what you're holding & how deep in the red you are.
If you are an investor basing your holdings on fundamentals you wait for the fundamentals to change. If your a trader your tactics should include an exit plan.

Well, i still have to disagree deaddog, but, whatever works for you & wish you and @trend2009 to have a profitable 2021. Good luck guys.

I have lots of position in biotech, all are in deep loss. Since the index is at all time high point, I am afraid if index goes downside, biotech or other growth stock will go down even further with it, even though they are in bear trend when the index is at ath. I am still not decided if I should cut loss or sell covered call to pocket the fat premium of biotech stocks.any idea?

If I learned one thing from last March is it that when things go south and I believe they will go furter, close every single position. Then you can start thinking straight again and can start with a clean slate. Maybe you want to open the positions again, or you might want to go the opposite direction. But at least, then you have the option to make that decision without being cluttered with the unrealized losses.

So read @Scataphagos post again and again until your position is closed:
"1st Rule of Holes"... when you find yourself in one, stop digging.
