Exactly. They wanted equality....so treat them equally.
That is silly. What women mean they want to be treated equally may have gotten way out of control, for example in this case. But in SPIRIT, what they meant is they wanted to vote, they wanted to enjoy sex without the risk of pregnancy, they wanted the same pay for the same achievement, they wanted access to education, they wanted access to work so that in case they were stuck with some asshole, their children wouldn't starve and they could go on to support themselves.
Should a woman be treated IDENTICALLY to a man in the armed forces? Like every other question asked in history, the answer is dynamic and depends on when in history you ask it. The more technological warfare becomes, the less physical differences will matter. In fact, advanced technological warfare is the very reason that women are in the armed forces to begin with.
