Exact opposite of what I said. I said most never owned slaves, nor was slavery beneficial to them. It was bad for them in that it depressed wages, which after all, was the whole point of it. Just like with immigration today.

Like Southerners today though, they didn't like being pushed around or told how revolting they were to their moral superiors in the north.

Were the Southerners offended most of the country was against slavery? How awful for those poor Southerners who took advantage of all that free labor. Southerners would not interested in picking cotton or hauling goods to market, they were content to let slaves do it.
