Should Confederate War Memorials/Statues Be Abolished?

"It never happened according to the foremost authority on Lincoln among mainstream Lincoln scholars, Harvard University Professor David H. Donald, the recipient of several Pulitzer prizes for his historical writings, including a biography of Lincoln. David Donald is the preeminent Lincoln scholar of our time who began writing award-winning books on the subject in the early 1960s. On page 545 of his magnus opus, Lincoln, Donald notes that Lincoln did discuss the Thirteenth Amendment with two members of Congress – James M. Ashley of Ohio and James S. Rollins of Missouri. But if he used "means of persuading congressmen to vote for the Thirteeth Amendment," the theme of the Spielberg movie, "his actions are not recorded. Conclusions about the President's role rested on gossip . . .""

Here is page 545 of that book,I dont see that quote

According to this history forum your pal Thomas DiLorenzo from the shitty web site you linked to (https://www.lewrockwell.com/2012/11...-myth-of-lincoln-and-the-thirteenthamendment/) is full of shit.

http://historum.com/history-films-television/49846-lincoln-movie-4.html

"I see the movie has prompted our neo-Confederate friend, Thomas DiLorenzo, to come out with more of his infamous fraudulent claims. I'll quote his lies in this post, then post the truth in the following post."

"Again, the above quoted (Thomas DiLorenzo) material is a pack of LIES."

Tony, your own quote from a different post includes a tiny line at the end saying that they don't have evidence of the claims about lincoln and the 13th ammendment. Did you forget that i already referenced that? You know, when I said you included a line in your quote that you forgot to expunge?

Who's the antifa thug that wrote the review about dilorenzo? Does he advocate killing whitey, too?

post #25 of this thread. Tony's post

includes this quote from tony:

" however, Lincoln's precise role in making deals for votes remains unknown"

So the vast majority of historians that tony keeps quoting are sure about something for which they have no evidence.

GOT IT

this agrees with Dilorenzo, btw. Not the antifa historians tony hero-worships

Dilorenzo is supposedly quoting page 545 of David H. Donald's book and there is no such quote on 545 of that book.

Here is a quote from David H. Donald's book showing Lincoln trying to make a deal with the south.Lincoln offers the south 400 million compensation for their slaves if the south agrees to end the war and accept the thirteenth amendment. This is proof from your source that Lincoln was indeed trying to end slavery

From the guy you/Dilorenzo called the "preeminent Lincoln scholar of our time"

Lincoln publicly stating his intention to end slavery prior to his re election and telling congress to pass the 13 amendment in his state of the union is proof of his lobbying to end slavery. And again the guy you keep quoting and called the "preeminent Lincoln scholar of our time" wrote in his book Lincoln offered the south 400 million if they agreed to end the war and accept the thirteenth amendment.

It doesn't matter if Dilorenzo flubbed a quote or not. What he said agrees with the tiny footnote you forgot to expunge from your numerous quotes.

" however, Lincoln's precise role in making deals for votes remains unknown"

They have no evidence. Capice?

Tony keeps posting quote after quote from antifa historitards who all agree that lincoln got the 13th ammend passed. But the tiny, little problem is they have no evidence. Which they admit if it's dragged out of them.

But they keep pushing the canard anyway. They just keep telling it over and over.....

Lincoln publicly stating his intention to end slavery prior to his re election and telling congress to pass the 13 amendment in his state of the union is evidence of him fighting for the 13 amendment.

The guy you called the "preeminent Lincoln scholar of our time" wrote that Lincoln tried to get the 13 amendment accepted by the south by giving them 400 million in compensation for their slaves.

There is no record whatsoever of Lincoln using any influence of his office to try to get the 13th passed.

Telling Congress in his 1864 presidential state of the union to pass the 13th amendment is using the influence of his office to try to get the 13th passed.

Telling Congress over and over that we need a wall is evidence that he's using his influence to build a wall.
