shorting at open?

i am trying to short some NYSE stocks at the open.

<b>the problem is, i _never_ get filled</b>. i was told by the back office, that short orders at the open have NO priority, so the specialists don't fill them.

is there a reliable way to short NYSE stocks at the open, and get filled at the opening price?

for what it's worth, i'm trading on Anvil through Assent.

Not that I know of since there could always be a down tick on the opening print and then no short sales would be filled. Sucks. I wish there was an order management software to replace the failed OPG order with a GTC sell order LMT @ the opening price.

hmmm. what about if a stock is on the Reg SHO pilot list? ( i.e. in that case, i believe the down tick rule doesn't apply to it, right...? )

I'd be fine limiting my shorting to these stocks....

More...

Just send in a market order, sell short, opening only. If the stock closed on an uptick, or opens up from previous close, you'll get filled. For sure on SHO stocks.

hi don,

this is not at all what i have found.

for example, for the last two days, i have placed a pre-market On Open Short order for SII ( Price set to "Market" ,
Time in Force set to "Open", Exch set to "NYSE" ). SII is on the Reg SHO Pilot.

I haven't gotten the fill.... Do you think this is because of something with Assent ( my clearinghouse )?

SII is on the "After hours" SHO list, therefore an uptick is needed for opening only orders.

My friends at Assent have told me something special about shorting with Assent, but I doubt that has anything to do with this particular concern.
