Shorting AMEX:TIV

I tried shorting TIV@ $3.40 on Friday, but it was rejected. Can anyone explain why? what do you think caused this sudden jump?

I asked my broker(Questrade)about it, they said maybe TIV is on the threshold list, but I checked and it wasn't!!

Maybe the shares weren't available for borrowing? :confused:
 
i believe questrade clears through penson.

penson (used to) not allow (without jumping through hoops) shorting of under $5 stocks unless they were huge companies.

conditional, because i've avoided dealing with penson for several years now.

You might have to ask your broker to locate stock available for shorting (and possibly pay a full service commission).

I notice Tri-Valley Corp. (stock symbol TIV) is in the gold mining business. I notice gold futures price values are at or near the high price six month range limit.

stock has a market cap of 85m with a major move upwards. professional short sellers have taken the available borrowable shares.
