Short selling ban coming?

was it conincidence?

this quarantine or shut down cannot go too long to as landlords still need to be paid and gov't wants it taxes yet business are ban from doing business? interest by businesses still need to be paid on loans etc. small to medium business cannot be shut down for more than a month or they will be out of business
the gov't would have compensate for forcing them to shut down their business oetc. quarantine or shutting down demand as
people not working for 3 months and still have to make car and rent etc. and pay health insurance and insurance. it's going cripple demand as people have less money in their pockets.

it must be very illiquid and no demand to ban shorting.
market makers practice naked shorting. naked shorting don't need to borrow shares to short.
they ban shorting on individuals and hedge funds but 'market makers' can still short right?

The economic impact seems completely ignored up to now , recession , depression bankruptcy has it's own mortality rate , perhaps not as high as Corona , but it's there , how is Italy going to pay it's nurses in three months?

hina issued a short selling ban on Feb 3 and the Shanghai composite recovered quickly.
Correlation is not causation. It is not even correlation. It is just a rebound in a bear market until proven otherwise.

I have read that short etfs are created through derivative products and not the actual underlying securities that make up the fund.
Yes, and possibly a shorting ban, should it happen, would not cover every stock or instrument.

On Friday, some European countries banned short selling.

On March 16th South Korea plans to ban short selling for 6 months.

I think it's entirely possible we will also see a short selling ban coming soon. The SEC has done it before.

And if you look what happened when they instituted a short ban, the market really plunged. Maybe they have learned their lesson, but probably not.
