German consumer confidence has risen further this month in the latest sign that the recovery in Europeâs largest economy is broadening.
The Nuremberg-based GfK consumer research organisation said on Thursday that its consumer climate index had risen in August to its highest since October last year, and forecast it would rise further in September. Consumers âclearly do not believe the recovery of the German economy to be a flash in the pan,â the GfK said.
The survey results added to evidence that the strength of the countryâs industrial export led recovery is feeding through into the consumer sector, long its weak point. By boosting imports, that could help spread the benefits across Europe
