Besides some indicating headlines as to where sales will be, I am actively involved in this particular industry and belive it to be the case from my own personal experience.

Aug. 18 (Bloomberg) -- Home Depot Inc., the largest home- improvement retailer, reported second-quarter profit that fell less than analysts estimated and increased its full-year earnings forecast.

This is also a supporting fact that the residential sector is moving forward

They have a different customer base compared to Lowe's right........?

I guess it all depends what market you are referring to, most of the new home inventory sat in condos and starter homes. Due to the attractive rates alot of those homes have been taken off the market.

From my personal experience foot traffic is up 30% through the model home and deals signed for me are up 10% in the last 60 days from April-May.

In my eyes i view this as positive, how the market interprets the information is anyones guess.

Alot of builders deal with HD for raw materials, the smaller outfits have a hard time competing with such volume pricing on Lumber, steel and drywall.

One of my regular macro homeworks is the analysis of the monthly Bundesbank report.

One indicator of high importance is the savings ratio in Germany :

In the 2nd quarter of 2009 : 15.3 % of disposable income. Sure, higher savings ratio is an expression of precautionary income uncertainty. But the number is 5 % higher then its moving average since World War II.

It's about time to address this problem government wise. People have to spend a bit of their wealth !

Two ways: increase spending or decrease buying power of savings

I'm increasing consumer confidence : bought
Cannon HG20, buying LG w2363v.
Need to upgrade comp becasue cannot convert HD videos to DVD in reasonable time (1h video conversion = 10h on centrino laptop).

but

government wise it is going to be inflation.

- House Starts neutral
- PPI positive

Market fell, standard reaction in recent days ...

So, what now?
It is going to be worse before it gets better?
