AMZN - Amazon options quietly break volume record as shares lift following holiday. Shares closed up nearly $80, or 4.5%, today at $1868.77 following positive holiday sales commentary, with options volume of 543K contracts breaking the previous record of 522K, and calls leading puts 7:3. Over 54% of the volume traded in the weeklys that expire tomorrow, including 14K 1860 calls, 12K 1850 calls and 12K 1810 calls. At least some of the 1810 calls, trading from $3.25 up to $57, may close positions opened on Monday when 6675 traded in the $3-4 range with shares near $1790. Interesting. Looking at open interest at close today, 12/27, there looks to be about 35k calls that are in the money for Dec27. Only about 700 puts are in the money on the other side. I wonder how many of those 3.5 million shares will get sold at open on monday morning.
