Share a keyboard and mouse without sharing the monitor

Thanks GTS. I was researching these options a bit this afternoon and have a follow up question for you and other tech savvy folks.

What is the fastest mouse, it looks like the Logitech cordless Laser, that would work with a 4 port KVM switch. I am trying to find out if this mouse would be compatible with a soho kvm switch. If I am going to go with a KVM switch then I might want to spend the $$$ for speed and convenience and get a better mouse and possibly a better faster keyboard.

BTW, I talked to Tiger Direct and they were steering me away from Trendware and towards D Link. They said their support is better. I waited on hold for 8 minutes trying to ask Trendware about support for the wireless laser mouse and hung up.

The soho KVM's I've used are from Linksys (non-USB, Linksys #KVM2KIT ) and IOGear (IOGear MiniView Micro USB Audio KVM Switch - 2 Port ) Both are 2 port units. I have not seen any compatibility issues with any keyboards or mice; I am using a Logitech cordless keyboard and mouse (MX700) with the IOGear unit. I have used older Logitech wireless keyboards and mice with the Linksys units as well without issue.

The only way to know for sure is to try it or google around to see if others have had compatibility problems.
 
I've been using the Trendnet (TK207) for a month, or so, and I'm happy with it. I have the same setup, that you're wanting to do.

Maybe so but I think for some things hardware is the appropriate solution.

When using a software solution how do you deal with the issue of controlling the non-attached machine when the OS isnt loaded (system booting) or is misbehaving? I can see having to get out a spare keyboard and mouse from time to time with that sort of setup.

You can set it to load at start up. Second part can be an issue. I run three computers with synergy and I actually have the keybords and mouses attached to all three. The two that aren't used are tucked away next to box. With synergy you can use both the attached keyboard / mouse or the one designated to control all three interchangeaby. But a ctrl-alt-del alyays goes to the box that the keyboard and mouse are attached to, so if the OS does freeze you are correct in that you need the attached keyboard. Maybe I'm lucky in that my shit runs pretty smooth and this is rarely an issue.

So anyways, just throwing it out there as an option as a happy user.
 
And one more thought- I've never used a hardware switch and maybe I'm wrong here, but I was under the impression that there was actually a switch. So to switch from one box to the other you had to flip some switch. Synergy just takes care of it- move your mouse off one monitor and it instantly shows up on the next one, just like a multi monitor set up on one box. And it can handle multi on one box and only one on another. I'm back and forth between monitors on different boxes all day, so for me the hassle of pulling out the keyboard for the occasional OS hiccup is outweighed by the ease of not flipping a switch a hundred times a day.
 
I have a related question please.

I use various PCs/screens for trading. Now I want to set up the layout on screen A for PC A to be identical to the layout on screen B for PC B.

The purpose of this would be so that if I click say sell on screen A then I would like it to automatically click the same place on screen B and sell here as well.

Is there a way I can do this?
