After an on-the-ground check of China’s home-grown C919 passenger jet by European Union regulators last month in Shanghai, the country’s civil aviation authorities have become more optimistic about receiving EU certification for the plane in 2025, according to a source with knowledge of the process.

“The delegation from the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) gave positive feedback,” said the person.

First of all, it's still an European/American plane with its engine, the most important part of the plane and various other parts still made by European and American suppliers. And for the rest of the systems, do we know how they were made? What bodies are overseeing its manufacturing process? Do we have any documentations that truly reflect the manufacturing process? Lots of questions still remain.

But still this is going to just replace the max 8 planes by Boeing which have tremendous issues that are still not addressed by its mere software upgrade of the ACAS system. I would still trust Airbus over any Chinese jets so this is not serious competition in the airplane business, but some competition in airplane manufacturing. I would still prefer to step onto an Airbus made by a company that's been making planes since 1970 than Chinese jets that are only debuting last year. This is not discrimination; this is about safety.
 
Soon China will flood the whole world with cheap cheap C919.

Then Boeing will be the first to die, considering the fact they
have
perpetual quality problem.

Well Boeing deserves to die with how they stubbornly refuse to address their corner-cutting in the manufacturing process that seriously undermine the safety of their planes. If we are going to be buying unsafe planes, we might as well buy them cheaper from the Chinese.

Honestly, some Chinese products are very low price and of good quality.

Just an example :


A scuba diving mask from Europe or the US cost US$100 in 1990.
At today's price, it would be around US$200.


I bought 2 Chinese-made masks recently for US$10 each.
One of the pieces was used for destructive testing.
Guess what? Quality is great!


Of course, I cannot buy European or US masks for
destructive testing.

Chinese products have come a long way in terms of quality from even 10 years ago.

All the same, corner-cutting and a careless attitude towards details (like safety) is deeply embedded in the culture. Just recently there was a scandal where it was discovered that a state-owned firm was using the same trucks and ships to transport both cooking oil and motor oil, without proper cleaning in between. The obsessive information control and repression under Xi means that less of this stuff comes to light.

I personally won’t fly in a Chinese plane or drive a Chinese car which hasn’t been proven in the marketplace for many years, at least.

Use it for the next 10 years to see how it holds up. The thing with Chinese-made products is that they don't last long. Yes they seem to be made of good quality initially but they break down quite fast so you have to buy again.

Yes read that too online. People actually got sick. It's the small things like these that Chinese are not careful about but it's small things like these that are most important especially on things like an airplane that take people into the air at 50K for 10+ hours.

How can you say that after 2 Boeing planes crashed due to their incompetence?!?

Furthermore, why dismiss Chinese manufacturing when they are the manufacturing mecca of the world?!?
