True confessions, I cannot stand a car door open with the "key in" bell dinging, makes me feel violent, feedback during a public speaking presentation, makes me want to get up and leave, feedback at a Deep Purple concert acceptable and welcome. Two radios on two different stations at the same time, makes me want to smash the radios, people chewing food in a quiet setting, makes me get up and leave, but someone slurping soup or a milkshake no problem. Someone humming or whistling the same phrase over and over, maddening. At times going to fiestas, it seems as if the Salsa and Merengue can wear my brain out, or maybe its the dancing and I am just old :D

Quote from Topper:

Wow.. how cool.

This is very interesting because my father had a neuromuscular disorder which was diagnosed as a form of muscular dystrophy and was confined to a wheelchair and was told he would never walk again. Me, being the crazy innovative problem solver in the family used his wheelchair and ramp out of his house as tools to simulate leg presses. How I did this was by sitting in front of him with a piece of wood, and have him put his feet on it and push as much as he could, using the the incline of his ramp as resistance. To make this long story short, the first time we did it, he could barely do 2 presses, after a month, he was doing 3 sets of 10 with bowling balls hanging off the back of his chair and weights on his lap. After that I stood him up and he walked with me walking backwards in front of him with my hands not holding him. He cried
great story topper

Quote from Rearden Metal:

Sensory defensiveness is a condition defined as having "a tendency to react negatively or with alarm to sensory input which is generally considered harmless or non-irritating" to neurotypical persons.

Common symptoms of sensory defensiveness include intolerance of high-pitched noises, intolerance of chewing sounds, intolerance of overhead lights (especially fluorescent lighting); experiencing a feeling of being attacked upon being touched (especially from light touch or sudden touch); intolerance of certain types of fabrics in contact with the skin; becoming nauseated upon smelling something that does not smell bad to neurotypical individuals; difficulty maintaining eye-contact; severe intolerance of foods due to taste, texture, or temperature; and generally becoming overwhelmed when exposed to a lot of sensory stimuli at once.

(You'd probably have two or three of the above traits- not all of them at once in the same person.)

I have no doubt that a disproportionately high number of ET members suffer from this shit, as do I.

Common treatment options include occupational therapy, vigorous exercise, and calming sensory stimuli... and even with all that, you're probably still fucked.

Alcohol tends to provide some temporary relief (but who the hell wants to go through life constantly drunk?), and weed just makes it even worse.

What I really want is the holy grail/magic bullet to knock out sensory defensiveness for good. So in the highly unlikely event that one of you actually knows what that solution might be, please feel free to share...

try the technology offered by heartmath.com

you will learn to use your breathing to get yourself into the "zone" where you will have a higher tolerance for things that bother you. practice with it several times through out the day if possible.

it works.

I am going to test it out today on RM. I am going to start clicking my pen insesantly, and see if he starts breathing.

If anyone is looking for Nitro, please just leave him a message. Nitro will be unavailable for the next few hours while he seeks medical attention, due to an unfortunate incident where a foreign object (pen) was forcibly and violently inserted into his rectal cavity.

Your patience and understanding is appreciated.
