Senseless killing in las vegas. What lessons to draw?

I lost my mood partially for trading today. I suspect the same things have happened to other traders after reading this news.

What puzzles me is that the killer seemed to be a successful and rich speculator in real estate. Our kind of people on this elitetraders forum who are into speculation. Based on personal experience, people who have made it rich are usually rational and generous. It is the losers in society who fall prey to "terrorism" and senseless violence. My guess is that the killer had mental problems which went undetected. Then, he lost his fortune and got into heavy debt through the Las Vegas casinos, felt hopeless at the age of 64 to lose everything and decided to kill himself but not before he takes revenge on society.

The avid gambler who according to his brother made a small fortune investing in real estate had been staying there since Thursday and had busted out windows to create his sniper's perch roughly 500 yards from the concert grounds.

What lessons can we draw from this senseless violence? Personally, I will try to avoid crowded area from now on. Being a foreigner, I will refrain from commenting on gun control which is a hot debate in U.S. The only thing I will say is that I am glad my country bans guns.

Let us pray for the victims and their family. Amen.

I'm not an expert on the psychology of it, but it is my understanding that is exactly how sociopaths behave.

What is perplexing is that this person was actually rich and had a lot of things to lose, assuming he was rich before the crime. People who are rich would want to stay alive to enjoy life. A logical conclusion was that he gambled his wealth away. What do I blame? Casinos and guns. Society is better off without them.

True but perhaps the ban did not go far enough. Singapore bans guns and firing a gun is death penalty in Singapore. So far, I have never heard of random shooting in Singapore.

Slightly different demographics in Singapore. 5.6mm people vs. well over 320mm in the US. Still, gun crime in Singapore isn't unheard of and has happened (I had to look it up).

There simply are some people in society who are bad eggs and do bad things. Or they were once OK, but something pushed them over the edge. Can't be legislated against... in spite of Hellary's clamourings.

You have to be a bit lucky to never encounter one of them. Unfortunately, "that's life". (Wasn't long ago that some deranged shooter went on a rampage on the grounds of wife's hospital. Bullets came through windows on the floor below the one she was on, but could have been different for her. She could be dead now for having been "in the wrong place at the wrong time". Wife's mom now often cautions, "stay away from the windows".)

Shooting up a hospital? Shooting up a college campus or movie theater? Shooting up a concert? WTF does that??

Wackos, that's who. Can we legislate against someone going off the deep end?

Apparently in Vegas people were yelling to get down. Obviously not realizing the shooter was high above and all the dummies that lay on the ground were easy targets. Lucky he ran out of bullets.
