George Allen is not a racist. In fact he is one of these republicans who has a habit of bending over backwards not to offend people, so it seemed like an odd thing for him to say.
Since his mom is French Tunisian where the the word is commonly used as a slur, It's not far fetched to assume that it was used around the house in his youth. It's pretty obvious from the clip that he was degrading the guy.
Lastly, I've become somewhat of a political junkie in the last 5 years, and imo this guy thinking he'll make it to the highest office in the nation is really quite funny.

The reason this story gets so much play is because the liberals have been very good at exploiting an off the cuff remark into "racism". It's so much easier that talking about issues. Just call your opponent a racist. What a powerful word. Never mind that Robert Byrd goes on TV talking about niggers. Or Hillary at a speech calling the local gas station owner "Mahatma Ghandi". Or Jesse Jackson and "hymietown".
