Senate Democrats Defeat The President: Why Obama Is Rushing To Fast-Track The TPP

In fairness, they are only voting on giving the treaty "fast track" status, which means when it is signed, Senators will only get to vote up or down on it. No amendments.

Other countries object to agreeing to a deal only to have it revised by the Senate. Most other trade deals have had fast track also.

The effect of fast track though, is that whatever Obama agrees to will get approved, since republicans have apparently rolled over on this completely.
 
Boehner Claims Optimism On Trade Legislation Despite Defeat In Senate

WASHINGTON -- One day after Senate Democrats dealt a blow to President Barack Obama’s trade agenda in the upper chamber, House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) said he is “still optimistic” Congress has the votes to give the president authority to fast-track international trade deals.

Boehner said that no matter what, the House will figure out how to deal with the trade legislation once it hits the floor.
“It’s a bump in the road. At the end of the day I think there is a majority in the House and Senate for giving the president trade promotion authority,” Boehner told reporters on Wednesday. “I’m hopeful the Senate will act soon, and when the Senate does, I expect we will act shortly thereafter.”

At the same time, GOP leadership lit into Democrats for stalling the bill.

“I’d like to express my disappointment in the Senate Democrats," said House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.). "They abandoned their president yesterday. This was the president's big economic bipartisan agenda we had for the whole year."


House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) hinted that leadership is still working on getting its members in line with fast-track legislation -- which a number of more conservative Republicans might vote against as well.
 
Isn't it odd that the very same republicans who want to send our troops all over the world to "protect our freedoms" are desperate to vote for another trade pact that will send our jobs overseas? And of course they want to let all of latin amercia move here and work for peanuts.

It's almost like they don't care about ordinary Americans and are only interested in serving big business and defense contractors.

Depends what the definition of "care" is...... if their version of "caring" implies ruthlessly fucking innocent people up the ass with no afterthought as to the consequences, then republicans care plenty, just like the dems do.
 
LOL, got to appreciate the liberal media, instead of the headline reading "AMTRAK train derails, because of a useless union employee, despite pages and pages and pages of regulations."

It now reads that they supposedly had a short fall in money when the driver went to fast around a corner. I guess more public sector unions is the solution to incompetent employees run amok.

We spent almost a trillion dollars on the stimulus that was supposed to include infrastructure and all the very things they're now saying we ignored.

They're like someone who fell out of a stupid tree and hit every branch on the way down.
 
So someone explain to me why every privately-owned passenger railroad has a much better safety and on-time record than government owned railroads.
 
So basically we compromise our sovereignty to keep other countries from ripping of intellectual property?

Kind of reminds me the way the Baltimore mayor handled the riots there.
