Zorak...

Dude.. you said you wanted some advice from a professional experienced trader... You said you were a bad trader...

Just gave you my opinion.. dont be offended just because you dont like it..

Your system is a joke if doesnt use stop losses and defined risk.. also you are still shorting stocks that are very illiquid... just try trading it and you will blow up..

With a system like yours its not about % gains to make it convincing.. its about the risks you are taking... and your slippage will be crazy.. just try trading your system with real money for one week.. you will see what I mean...

Both are true. I'm still waiting for advice from a professional experienced trader.

Good. I didn't think it was possible, but I found someone who knows even less than I do.

But, thanks for your contributions. I guess.

IMO the problem is always the short side. One singel squeeze takes you bakc to the start very easily.

The past results do include some horrible shorts...but the averages are still over 1%.

Why not short DJ futures or etf's against the long small cap position? You could do that easily on your own, without anyone else?

This could be a good idea...thanks!

Quote from zorak:

The paperport does not use explicit stops, no...the system itself provides a measure of stop-loss, by stating that any held position not on the current list should be exited. For that matter, in my high-volume real-$ trading, I don't use explicit stops either.

I realized later that I actually do use a stop on shorts in my real-$ trading...but it's been awhile since I coded them in, so I forgot about them. I watch that each short I own adheres to a certain % of my bankroll...if a short starts to go against me, it becomes a larger %, and some is covered. This isn't a "stop" in the common usage of the word, but it is closer to it than nothing.

But, paperport does not use stops. If TrendFader is right about the need for them, it seems that the paper results would underestimate how well a real trader, using those stops, could do.
