Self Taught or Mentored?

Quote from tito:

Thanks to all who have responded. My situation is that it is almost impossible for me to find a worthwhile mentor who would be willing to sit down one-on-one with me and show me his tricks, although I do personally know some consistently profitable traders and have learned some general stuff from them (mostly about money management and psychology). I have enough resources to go it alone one small step at a time and learn from my own mistakes over time. I started this thread to know if this is at all possible and I think my question has been sufficiently answered.
Thanks again and I may post more ignorant questions in the future. :)
Tito, I'll leave you with a thought...

If you would like to trade currencies, open an account at OANDA.

There you can trade as little as 1 unit per trade, that exposes .02 cents of your capital to margin (50:1).

Overall they are the best broker out there.

Good luck, and let us know your progress.

You can watch someone play golf;
learn from observation;
learn a little more from conversation with him;
but play the game quite differently than this person depending on how YOU interact with the game and YOUR ability to FOCUS.

what a joke....those morans couldn't call their way out of a phone company convention....

Be sure to incorporate the art of feng shui when setting up your trading desk. Beware of sharp objects pointing towards your direction because they emanate death chi.

LOL...

Seriously, though, having a mentor may not be your answer.

Take a guy like Evil Knievel for example.(the guy who flies in the air with his motorcycle)

He can show me exactly what bike to use, exactly how fast I need to be going, and exactly how high the ramps need to be to make a clean landing 200yds away. Well, I'm sorry, but there's no way in hell I'm gonna try to make that jump.

You could use that analogy for trading. Some people are just risk aversive. They couldn't imagine doing anything that might cause them to lose $1000 in less than a minute.

So, even if you find someone to show you exactly what to do, you still may not be able to do it.
