I wish this thread were more about what it is intended to be about rather than people telling me that poker is not banned, and I must be a terrible poker player because it is still going on but I'm not really playing. I guess I'll quit saying that I was a poker player because I hear this all the time. Here what happened.
1) The bill makes it tough for players from the US to cash into the poker sites, because the bill says that any financial institution in the US cannot do business with online gaming sites.
result----> because pros already have money in their online accounts this is not a worry to them. For fish (bad players, the reason we pros make money) they are greatly effected by this law. So what ends up happening is you have all the pros in the entire world and just the fish (bad players) from every other country but the US. Only problem is that the US makes up the FAR majority of online players.
Sure you can make money, but it is a lot harder. I still do play online poker, in fact I'm in a game right now on full tilt. However, because conditions are much tougher now, I'm looking for other opportunities. And because the stock market is something that I am naturally interested in, I'm choosing to at least give trading a try. That's why I'm on here posting asking for help, for a mentor, doing my best to improve my chances for success.
This is simply not true, anyone in the US can still play. Go on thepokerdb.com, you'll see plenty of players making quite a good living at it (and many many more you won't see losing, but that's the nature of it, isn't it).
My guess is you ended up in that latter group, and you're using the Port Security Bill as an excuse. If you were a profitable online poker player, you would still be playing.
