The man, whose identity has not been released and who is reportedly in custody, was said to have showed up at Trump International Golf Club with an AK-47 rifle. While initial reports claimed the man fired upon the former president from a tree line, Fox News confirmed the suspect never got a shot off.

Network correspondent Lucas Tomlinson reported:

Fox News can now report that it was the Secret Service that fired the gunshots at the suspected gunman outside former President Trump’s golf club, Trump International in West Palm Beach, Florida. The Secret Service saw a man carrying an AK-47. The man with the AK-47 did not open fire. It was the Secret Service that opened fire. The man dropped the rifle, took off running, we now understand, based on local reports, that suspect is now in custody. We are awaiting a press conference from the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office as well as the Secret Service.

Yep. I have to say too that if a shooter wants something handy nearby to stabilize his rifle while trying to make a shot, that being able to stick the barrel through a chain link fence and resting on that is VERY helpful.

Meanwhile. I just saw that press conference where at the end the lead law enforcement guy went over the top congratulating everyone on what an outstanding job the entire team did.

I don't know about that. Once again, looks like predictable areas of exposure went uncovered.

There does seem to be someone who did an outstanding job indeed, but that was the quick thinking ENORMOUSLY helpful civilian who photographed the license plate of the shooter. OUTSTANDING. When the government clowns are done patting themselves on the back and trying to make themselves look good, they should at least give that civilian a gift certificate to Arby's or something.

For once you are correct, a 338 Winchester XPR is a cheap but decent gun for that scenario. The AK has poor range.

I blame Biden, shooters are too poor to afford proper weapons, a basic but respectable two grand Lapua is too steep for them.
