Sears to Let Those Who Lose Jobs Stop Payments & Still Keep Appliances

Quote from drjekyllus:

Can we just get back to, if you want something, you buy it and pay for it? Was that really a difficult concept?

LAMO! That's the funniest thing I've read in a month! Pay your bills? I suppose you think we should work for a living as well? WTF! That's for suckers! You might have missed the last election, but that old-fashioned white man thing about honesty and living within your means and being independent - that's out of style now. We've got a better system where we get somebody else to pay for everything we want. It should work out just grand.

Quote from S2007S:

“We thought this would be a way to get folks to jump in where they’d been a little reluctant,” Doug Moore, president of Sears’s home-appliance unit, said in a telephone interview.

FOLKS TO JUMP IN....This guy is a complete idiot.

Doug moore better wake up and take notice this kind of business model is just going to bite them in the a$$ in months and years to come. We are in a crisis and all these companies think of is offering people who lose there jobs more fuc$ing Incentives, it seems the worse the economy gets the better the deal is for the consumer. When companies start to offer programs like this it becomes a drag on the entire retail sector.

Isn't sears holdings primarily a real estate co with the stores incidental? Wasn't that their profit model last 10 years or so?

Obviously, they are angling for an impending bailout themselves.

"See, we helped out those poor folks. Now, you have to help us out too."

Went through sears other day - wall to wall appliances, all new and shiny. Mostly the front loading washers and driers for $2.5K a pair. Who is buying? Not me!

Great news. Free is good. Only a chucklehead would think otherwise. Bout time corporations look out for consumers. Viva la sear!

The 'Sears is angling for a bailout' comment you made is honestly the very first thing I though when I read this article.

I would tell Sears to shove those appliances and come to grips with the fact that young couples and even the upper middle class are buying washers and driers only when they go to 50% off, and the mid and lower end lines at that (Amana and Roper instead of Bosch), for about $700 to $900 for a pair - and only if their current ones can't be fixed - and that others are buying used appliances on craigslist or ebay (sort of like used cars), and that 70 year old grannies are fixing their 16 year old appliances themselves with parts bought at wholesale online.

People are also growing their own vegetables and fruit, and especially in New York and New Jersey, even in densely populated suburbs, keep chickens for eggs and goats (for all reasons).

LOL.

This is not what it seems. Debt forgiveness is counted as income and it is taxed accordingly :p . Most likely these guys are writing off their losses & sticking YOU the taxpayer with the bill.

Sears has a heart.

But does Vegas have a heart?

In the classic Albert Brooks movie "Lost in America" Brooks wife loses most of his nest egg late at night while Brooks sleeps at the tables.

Brooks a former advertising executive in one of the funniest scenes in modern film that I can think of pleads with the casino owner to give him a break and his money back. Brooks tells the casino owner perfectly played by Garry Marshall that he should give him his money back, and start an advertising campaign "Vegas has a heart".

I thought that scene was hilarious because of its absurdity. But it ain't so absurd now, in this new 21st century Nanny state where Barry is King and Nancy and Harry be Co-Queen and any and every thing seems to be topsy-turvy.
