A search on any website for 1 letter is problematic, because it would return basically every post.

Hmm...If you mean AT&T, I would suggest using exactly that...AT&T or ATT
 
I am wondering if ET can institute a special "tag" around stock symbols --- and then create a separate search which allows searches strictly for these tagged symbols.
