still hanging on holding my breath, its been almost a week on a few of these things... no failures yet... knock on wood...

are the ST3500641AS-RK models affected?

I cant find a it

If you get this, be sure to keep the box. Seagate has a sucky policy about the shipping box for RMA meeting certain standards... most of us don't have such boxes, so Seagate will send us one for about $20..... cheapshot scam, if you ask me.

I upgraded the firmware on my Barracuda 7200.11 ST31000340AS drives last night from SD15 to SD1A without any problem.

I would recommend that anyone who has a drive that is affected by the bad firmware upgrade as soon as possible since once the drive experiences the problem it is no longer possible to flash the firmware.

Someone has posted a nice how-to on unbricking your drive if it has gotten into this state; not easy but better than sending it off to some data recovery shop: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=128807

"...The new 7200.12, 500G, single platter HDD also has "410AS" firmware, so I ordered one. With greater areal density, should be a bit faster..

Installed it... runs cool, 84F, not only quiet but VERY quiet...

HD Tune speeds.. 126/66/103 @14.9ms access.

Nothing to complain about here... unless it breaks, it's a 5-egger in my book.
