Quote from max401:
Your statement is contradictory. What if an invasion is the only way to take him out?
"So again, while I am against going to war with Iraq, I am all in favor of eliminating Saddam as quickly as possible and in any way we can."
I see no contradiction.
As long as there are alternatives to his removal, who wants war?
If there are no alternatives, war is the only alternative.
You are reaching man. Really reaching in your quest and obsession with RS7. You seem to me to have a habit of focusing on the forest, and completely missing the trees of normal conversations that take place on the internet. These are not legal briefs, these are just a bunch of guys talking.
If Saddam leaves of his own volition, will GW still wage war against the people of Iraq?
Not likely.
War is the last resort. The debate is over the time frame to come to the last resort conclusion.
Some would give him forever, like a prisoner in California who sits on death row, yet knows that given the length of time that the appeal processes take, he has at least 20 years before he "might" actually face execution.
Bush and some within his administration would prefer to move at a certain pace, others would prefer to move at another pace. The bottom line, is war is an inevitability if Saddam refuses to cooperate with the wishes of the United States when it comes to disarmament.
I really don't know what the right time frame is, as I have not seen all the evidence yet, just the smoke rising from a few guns, and the reminders of the smoke from the oil fires set by Saddam in 1991.
Will Saddam suddenly cooperate fully with weapons inspections and disarm? I hope so, I am against war----however, I see war as a necessary lesser of two evils at certain times.
