Scientists warn of 'emergency on global scale'

Quote from tomdavis:

The example I want to follow is Al Gore. He flies around in his private Gulfstream jet that burns 400 gallons of fuel per hour -- and then tells the rest of us that we need to change our lifestyles to consume less fuel!

I don't know which model Gulfstream Al Whore supposedly flew/flies around in.
But a GIV burns about 750 gallons the first hour of flight (T.O. and climb) and 450 gallons an hour after that.

Ah yes, a ploy for money. Brilliant. All the scientists are frauds. Oh of course. We don't need the rest of the world and we'll just put up a giant wall to keep all our good air in.

dude, lets go over some things. You posted this article and quoted it in your post. You obviously feel that there is something important within this trash. There is no substance, just the opinions of 'leading' scientists, business men etc.

All it basically says is that the world has problems, whoa.. genius fucking insight. It is no longer just about climate change, because after several setbacks (fudging numbers) that "movement" has lost some steam. So now these blowjobs are including economic and social issues in their "studies". Who the fuck are these people? Why is their opinion on social issues any better than mine? What does this shit have to do with the climate? And the best part of the article is the "issue of governance, existing international arrangements are not dealing quickly enough with current global challenges such as climate change and biodiversity loss". Is this serious? Do these idiots really think have some say as to how we are going to live our lives? They don't even know if CO2 lags or leads temp in 'predicting' climate change and now they are going to solve all the worlds ills.. they are seeking what, global governance? LOL

These assholes will never have any say as to how we live in the US, I guarantee you that. And the more of this disgusting nonsense that you post the more people are going to get pissed. the nerve they have to call this the "state of the planet address" is almost unbelievable. This whole article is based on self importance under the guise of saving the planet, like the UN sec gen having a speech ready to congratulate them (for what?) that said "this couldn't have come at a better time". This is nauseatingly weak and phony self gratification. How can anyone really, objectively take these hacks seriously? this is a religion, not science. However instead of coming by with their hand out, they want it to be international law that the world pays for their worthless existence. Fuck these losers.

futurecurrents: these types exist in all countries. Enjoy the crab and the lobster while you can. And stay away from those dead forests. Just pretend they don't exist. Works for this bottom-dweller; no reason why you shouldn't do the same.
The radical change that would have to happen just to stop, let alone do the truly necessary thing, which is to proactively reverse the damage already done, is simply impossible for human beings to grasp.
They say animals don't have a concept of their own mortality. The human race, overall, believes itself invulnerable. That strange diseases that no one heard of a few years ago are suddenly popping up makes no impression. They still think they're invulnerable, and that their children and grandchildren will live just the same way they have.
We know that's impossible. But you can't convince guys like this. And there's enough of them to stop anything at all from happening. So just live and enjoy. Nothing else you can do.

Ok wise prophet, when is humanity going to go extinct? It is impossible that you know what u claim to, because you can't see the future.

The Earth started out as a molten ball of rock and metal, it formed a poisonous, extremely hot atmosphere and over millions and billions of years it formed life, culminating in humanity. It has been through much worse than what we are doing now and it is folly to believe/suggest otherwise. We can't destroy this planet even though that is eventually its fate. Everything eventually "dies", and whether it is caused by the explosion of a star, or a collision with another celestial body, or a fuckin attack by the death star, it is going to happen.

Do you really expect civilization as we know it, to tear itself down, to devolve, just because a cult of scientists "predict" that at some uncertain point in the future we are going to do irreparable harm to the Earth and kill ourselves? Seriously is that what you expect? why don't we just commit mass suicide now then to save the poow yittle planet?

I have news for you hippie.. at a geometrically increasing rate man designs new ways to kill itself, and this (AGW) is the least likely way we are goin' out. quit worrying about it and don't contribute any of your money to these political liars.

Already happened. AGW can be adapted to; a lifeless ocean, not so much. And the latter is already baked into the cake. It's as inevitable as the eventual winking out of the Sun, except it will happen in the lifetime of your grandchildren.

how many bong hits did u rip so far tonight? Your delusional and melancholy bro.. might as well drop some x or something to cheer up. :D

You don't "know" anything

Well there is no point to stupid carbon taxes and schemes then.

Natural carbon dioxide (CO2) seeps in Papua New Guinea have given scientists rare insights into what tropical coral reefs could look like if human-induced atmospheric CO2 concentrations continue to rise unabated. At present rates of increase, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) forecasts atmospheric CO2 levels of about 750ppm or more by 2100...
we found that reef development ceased below pH level 7.7."
One of the MPI co-authors, Martin Glas said: "Not only did coral abundance change, also other calcifiers like foraminifera and calcifying algae were strongly reduced under elevated CO2 levels. This is disturbing news as they represent key-species for the formation of a healthy coral reef and contribute significantly to the reefs calcium carbonate production."...
"The decline of the structurally complex corals means the reef will be much simpler and there will be less habitat for the hundreds of thousands of species we associate with today’s coral reefs...
These changes are simply due to ocean acidification, i.e., even without the projected +2°C warming of the oceans associated with rising greenhouse gases. The 0.5°C warming we have already observed in the tropics in the last 50 years has already caused mass coral bleaching events and declining coral calcification.

Ocean acidification and coral reefs

Combine rapidly rising ocean temps with acidification, and forget about it. It's over.
Listen carefully now to what I'm saying: the Mauna Loa records show that all the measures taken so far have had no effect. As that is the case, there is no reason to think levels in 2100 will be less than the IPCC projection. At those levels, given cool ocean temps, relatively, you get the effects in the cited article. But of course those temps aren't what's going to prevail at 700 ppm or higher of CO2.
Now, given your juvenile response, which is the same response most people would give, the chance that levels in 2100 will be any less, given the extraordinary measures that would have to be taken to keep them from getting there, is very low. That isn't because it's inevitable: it's because people like you are too stupid to understand what's going on.
I'm sure you didn't get the rest, but I'm quite certain you got that last sentence.

I'd like to add that although the measures taken so far have not changed the rate of CO2 increase, we really haven't taken any serious measures yet. It's been akin to using non-sugar substitute in your coffee and expecting to lose weight.

And how many people even know about the acidifcation? I'd bet fewer than 1 in 20 people have even heard of it.

Whistling in the dark. Ignorance is bliss.
