I knew it... I just knew... feeling your leg muscles relax right after a run as you poor the beer in.... a beer or two had to be good for you.

Researchers at Granada University in Spain have found that beer can help the body rehydrate better after a workout than water or Gatorade.
Professor Manuel Garzon also claimed the carbonation in beer helps to quench the thirst and that its carbohydrate content can help replace lost calories, The Telegraph reports.

The study involved a group of students who were asked to work out until their body temperature reached 104 degrees. Researchers then gave beer to half of the students and water to the other half.
Mr. Garzon announced the results at a press conference in Granada, saying the hydration effect in those who drank beer was “slightly better,” The Telegraph reports.
A cardiologist with the Real Madrid football team, Dr. Juan Antonio Corbalan, told the paper he long has recommended barley drinks to professional sportsmen after exhausting activities.

Don't know if its true, but I heard that in Ireland they give new mothers a Guiness right after the baby is born. Supposed to help with breast feeding.

No wonder the Irish have big families. :D

So true. Alcohol seems to "go straight to the muscles" after a workout. Nice feeling, unless you wanted to be up and doing something. : )

Edit: I still use the 1% choco milk method after a hard workout. One cup for a strenuous one hour workout.

After an intense workout (most of them), I drink 40 grams of whey protein followed by a few grams of pure glucose for an insulin spike to jam the protein into my fatigued muscles...then after 30 minutes or so I'll tip a few 7oz bud lights...sometimes.:) Sometimes more!

Too much alcohol will mess up your uptake of nutrients and protein, thus should be avoided during training cycles. Or so I've heard.

Yes, you're doing it right. 40 grams of whey with carbs is EXACTLY what your body needs as your muscles are screaming for glycogen post workout. Many pro bodybuilders drink a shake mixed with about 80 carbs, then inject fact acting insulin which is more anabolic than even steroids, but is a damned dangerous practice.

As for alcohol, yes, a beer would be fine post workout. Too many beers, and you'll suppress your IGF-1 levels.
