Ah, there's the rub. You believe (correct me if I am wrong) wholeheartedly in the science. Many people, including myself, don't believe the science is proven across the board in much of this. We are more suspicious having seen the desire and evidence of political narratives shaping the data. So we're naturally going to have issues with being told what to do because of data we aren't convinced is real.
The difference is that I don't believe you are stupid because you believe in it, and I don't have issues with you wearing a mask. I'm not telling you to stay in your house or to not stay in your house, and it doesn't really matter to me how scared you are. You, however, are telling me what I can and cannot do. You are telling me what I have to wear, and when I don't agree with you, you are calling me stupid.
There's a big difference there.
