Schumer extends an olive branch to Republicans

I understand quite well how things work in our country, they are very unfair.Dems will eventually make DC and PR states, making the Senate more fair as it should be.

Also due to gerrymandering,The House is not fair, neither is The EC College.
Democrats will never pass new gerrymandering rules
The Black caucus needs to protect its minority/majority districts
It has been voted down in every Democratic convention platform
Its things they say to fool their sheep

In 2019 when a constitutional amendment to create a bipartisan redistricting commission first passed Virginia’s legislature members of the Legislative Black Caucus voted against it.

DC, by Constitutional design was never intended to be a state.

It’s the National Capital, for all states, not a state.

PR brings zero to the table, except a way for Democrats to gain votes.

PR is just an attempt to offset Alabama and Arkansas tha tbring nothing but low education rates and good football players. PR adds baseball players....good balance in the Force.

D.C. should not be a State. What should happen is NE and SE should absorbed back into Maryland, they are residential neighborhoods that serve no function to the Federal government and MD is better at funding what they need versus D.C. who gets shit funding (largest and wealthiest landowners in D.C. don't pay property taxes I believe - Federal Government and Universities).

NW can be cut off too and be part of county where Bethesda is. D.C> should be the Mall and maybe a swuare area of the ssurrounding downtown (up to R o S Street and east west to the the rivers).

My idea gives representation to NE and SE by being part of MD who will get more REPS in Congress. But it will never happen and D.C. statehood will never happen.

#PartyOfUnity

Schumer said, “Well, Rev., we have one goal: big, bold change in America. We would like the Republicans to join us in some of those things at least, and maybe they will. But we are going to get that change no matter what. We cannot — there is such a demand, three huge issues we have to do: climate, huge issue facing the country, racial and economic inequality, which has gotten worse, not better, which demands change and justice in a big, bold way, and improving our democracy. Making D.C. a state, automatic voter registration, getting rid of Citizens United, all the things embodied in H.R. 1, which the House passed and McConnell would block up, but we’re going to fight to pass it in the Senate. That’s why we’ve made it S 1. So, climate, racial inequality, economic inequality, and democracy, improving our democracy, letting people vote much more easily, dealing with D.C. and Puerto Rican statehood, dealing with bad money that flows in. The John Lewis Act, undoing the horrible decisions the court made, which defanged the Voting Rights Act, and that’s why Republicans have gotten away with taking people’s right away to vote for the last four years.”

Stating that Republicans need to support every Democratic initiative as "Unity" and demanding that Republicans support the entire Democratic platform in order to demonstrate "their acceptance of the olive branch" is a non-starter.

The majority of the ideas listed above are simply bad ideas. Let's start with the concept of D.C. being a state - our founding fathers very wisely created a system where the nation's capital would never be a state; nor ever included as part of an existing state.

The Democrats do not promote D.C. statehood because they give a crap about anyone living in D.C. -- they merely want two more Democratic Senators plus house member(s) for their caucus. It is pure politics.

Before any consideration of making Puerto Rico as state occurs -- the entire island must clean up its wide-scale, unacceptable political corruption. Puerto Rico -- whether discussing its power company, public services, or local government is effectively unmanageable. At this point it would be best to assign a military government temporarily to fix the problems while wiping out the islands debt (via federal payouts). After this democratic government can be restored to the island with proper oversight and the people allowed to vote on statehood.

Climate Change (aka "Man-made Global Warming") is a political movement -- not a scientific reality. The Democrats are merely pushing their political agenda using "climate change" as a tool.

The John Lewis Act attempts to wipe out voter id and several other reasonable measures implemented in the majority of state currently as proper measures to reduce voting fraud. The entire proposal needs a serious re-write.

In summary --- promoting the "unless you support all of our platform" then you don't support "Unity" nonsense is an absurd talking point for Democrats. If the Democrats want to do something useful they can spend their time focusing on compromise where they can drive agenda points that many Republicans can agree with. The first thing they should do is come up with a compromise for a joint proposal for funding pandemic relief that cuts out all the pork and funding of unrelated political initiatives. The Republicans have extended an olive branch of this... it is time for Democrats to grab it and quickly arrive at a compromise bill.

10 Senate Republicans seek meeting with Biden on Covid relief
They are hoping to create a package that can draw bipartisan support.

more representation, more access to democracy, and less corruption in our democratic process should not be "democrat initiatives".

PR has a republication Governor, so don't assume its an automatic dem seat

PR's Governer is democrat. The one prior was Republican but she assumed office after the elected Democrat Governer resigned. She was a democrat for life until 2019.She was crushed by about 20 points running for her own term after endorsing Trump.

Puerto Ricans are overwhelmingly democrats,in the states and on the Island.10 of PRs Governors have been Democrat,3 Republican with one of those not being elected .She might not be the only one not elected as I dont know the other 2.

That isn't the democrat initiative and you know it. The initiative is to control power, period.

But Biden is foundering with Cuban voters, a key Latino voting bloc in the state. According to the poll, Trump holds almost a 50 percentage point lead over Biden, 71% to 23% among Cuban voters.

However, Biden is leading among another big Latino voting bloc in the state: Puerto Rican voters, where Biden leads Trump, 66% to 23%.
