why are American schools (and for that matter all government offices) closed on Christmas?I live in a state where they are not allowed to mention Christmas or Easter in public K-12 school, but they can mention Kwanzaa and Ramadan. I find it very difficult to see how anyone can make a case that the majority religion is somehow being forced on children in any manner as part of secular public education in the U.S.

to tell children, "We close for our Christmas but not for your gibberish holiday and you can either submit to our religious holiday or go back where you came from but we aint ever going to close for you and we aint going to be open for you on our Holiday!" is I suppose an idea.
well, it's just good Jesus wasn't born during the busy times of Spring planting or Autumn harvesting. That could have messed things up.Public Schools are closed for two weeks at the end of December because it is the Winter Break. You are not allowed to call it the "Christmas Break".
what are we up to now? 8 Holidays a year. That's what a trader gets (if he is not trading fx.) Make the rest of the world do that and they would be a little more tolerant for a religious holiday (or any holiday for that matter) that would give them a day off.Schools in New York and other states are closed for the Jewish Holidays. They are not closed for Good Friday.
