syswizard,

I just thought of a drive you might like - we used to hunt up in that area - going up to Cooke City. Since you may be in the Livingston area - you might like driving over Beartooth Pass - from Red Lodge, Montana into Wyoming - a beautiful drive. The problem is - it may be too long of a drive for you - probably around 150 miles from Livingston. The Pass is near 11,000 feet - lots of Switchbacks - might be a little scary for some - lol. The other problem is - if you are there in September - it could be snowing on the Pass.

We once took some family members from Upstate New York - to Glacier National Park - went over the Going to the Sun Highway Pass - thought several of them were going to throw up - it was so funny to us. A couple of them were going crazy - "were going to die - were going to die". And the Going to the Sun Highway - is mild - compared to Beartooth Pass.

Here is some info.

Thanks for that VST....and 150 miles is not too far.
I know that going out there mid-September is dicey-at-best weather-wise, but my youngest daughter does not get off the trail (she works for the National Forest Service) until then.

Montana is getting very crowded now - around - 1.125 Million population - LOL. And - it is the 4th Largest State. I am sure you are not used to living around so many people in Philadelphia - LOL.

Philly is 1.6 million....pack-a-roo maximus.
Most worthless possession in Philly ? A sports car. Millions of stop lights and stop signs.

I have seen some of those stop lights and stop signs in Montana - kind of rare in parts of Montana. When I was a kid - they didn't even have a speed limit - serious. You could still get pulled over by the police - if they thought you were driving dangerously. There are parts of Montana where the cities and towns are far apart. Of course - in a City - they would pull you over. Where I lived at the time - the closest town - had a part time police officer. Update: I just remembered - the police officer and one of my Uncles - were drinking buddies.

About 40 % of the Population of Montana - is in 10 Cities - so the rest of the State - kind of wide open.
