Scalping e-minis

** Can anyone honestly say they are making money scalping the e-mini's? **

I have been scalping the ES over the past week just for fun with 1 contract. I would say i have about a 75% success rate with the average scalp about 0.5pt. The average loss is about 0.5pt also. I've been making about 4-6 ES pts total but the commissions kill you on roughly 20-30 trades. I'm thinking about trading bigger size. What is tough is when it bounces against you for like a point before you can even hit the transmit button. I think for a tape reader it is a good challenge by watching the market depth screen and following momentum. Obviously, this technique is more successful if you scalp at pivot points & s/r levels.

I've seen this sort of thing posted a couple times now, what am I missing here? If you have a 1.5 pnt stop you shouldn't even consider a trade that doesn't offer the potential of a 4.5pnt. gain, at least I wouldn't.

What you are missing here is that if you have 80% winners you can afford them to be only 1 point and your losers 1.5 points: After 100 trades you get:

1*80 - 1.5*20 = +50 points

I posted on this subject the other day. Do the math. You need around a 70% win rate to make money scalping for ticks. If you can do that my hat is off to you.

I'm with you on this one. I'm just saying it is nonsense to reject a trading system just because it has a wider stop than profit target. On the contrary, you could argue that the instances where you are most likely to have a great amount of slippage are losing trades (stops). Therefore, it would only make sense to eliminate as many losing trades as possible.
 
a little patience, as i said, im working on that. in the moment i see something around 5-10 trades in the frist + last hour, not more. its based on short term reversal + momentum + penetration of the BB. the hit rate must be about 80%. the execution is with autotrader, that is, you automatically generate a target limit order with a 1 point target. if your entry is ok, you have to hit that target within the next bar or the overnext (holding time 1-3 min). if not, you can mostly cancel b/e or with 1 tick loss. you seldom get really stopped out hard.

if i have worked it out (of course i do not allow myself any sex in that period :) ) , i will show the P/L... :)

Hmm..I have no problem getting scalps in ES sometimes I do not get a fill that is true since you have to go on the bid or ask but getting 1-2 points profit is not that hard , however, it requires experience and no hesitation..next time I will do my trades I will record some avi files for your enjoyment may save you some money! I also do not have a lot of trades..I have sometimes 2-4 setups through the whole day but the key to make a living scalping is # of contracts and patiently waiting for the scalp and not chasing anything..if you do not get your fill you go to the next setup and you really have to go with 10+ to make a living ..as far as book..here is the problem..if you tell the world your setup and the way u enter scalps, you would really have too many people trying to get fills at the same price or close to it making it harder to get fills....so why anyone would risk it?
