Yes, but I'm not on ET making a big case that other people should stop using plastic -- while calling anyone who disagrees with not reducing plastic vile names. Nor do I carry on such activities on ET while selling large amounts of polluting plastic as my business each day. In other words, I am not a hypocrite.
Ignoring the point that the oceans are not actually choking in plastic. Debris is only a minuscule component of ocean content.

Yup, history has many examples of civilizations being decimated by climate change and environmental destruction. Today's civilizations will not go down without a fight. Man made climate change will cause wars with all of their costs. It is economic foolishness to not address the problem early. A carbon tax will save money in the long run.
Yes and if man is causing warming with co2 and carbon production... and there will be those who contribute most to the destruction by selling air conditioning gases which are 2000 times more powerful than co2... like fraudcurrents who may go down as the first agw econ terrorist other than steyer.
One thing I like about my job is that I change out old inefficient HVAC systems for new high efficiency equipment with the electric/carbon cost being reduced by 60%. That is no small amount. We can also thank the govt for the new standards. I do no new construction.

During normal use the new refrigerant r410 never needs replenishing. There is very little leakage. It's too expensive to let go.

It has reduced damage to that vital shield, which blocks cancer-causing ultraviolet rays, by mandating the use of progressively more benign gases. The oldest CFC coolants, which are highly damaging to the ozone layer, have been largely eliminated from use; and the newest ones, used widely in industrialized nations, have little or no effect on it.
But these gases have an impact the ozone treaty largely ignores. Pound for pound, they contribute to global warming thousands of times more than does carbon dioxide, the standard greenhouse gas.
