Ex-Navy Chief Rips ‘Faked’ ITV Gaza Shooting Footage, Claims ‘Ketchup for Blood’ in Staged Scene

Rear Admiral Chris Parry blasted ITV News’ widely shared footage of a Gazan brandishing a white flag being shot in the street as a “classic fake” on Thursday.

ITV News ran its cameraperson’s footage on Wednesday which captured the moment an unarmed Gazan man was shot dead while part of a group holding a white flag just moments after the network’s journalists on the ground had interviewed him.

Speaking to TalkTV host Julia Hartley-Brewer in her London studio, the former Royal Navy commander argued that the footage was a clear set up and inconsistent enough to be considered “fake.”

“We’ve seen all throughout this campaign that the Gazans and Hamas keep putting out these fake videos and it’s hooked a lot of people,” he said.

“What’s fake about it?” the host asked.

Parry continued: “So if you look at the detail, you’ve got changes in clothing, you can see the break at certain cases where they’ve actually done a retake. There’s no evidence that it’s an Israeli sniper at all. You just hear a gunshot… and we also know that Hamas do force flag act activities. So, even if the guy had been shot, it could actually be a set up by Hamas, who say, ‘Here’s an opportunity with an ITV crew… let’s shoot the guy.’”

The video shows a group of men standing with their hands up and waving a white flag as they seek to evacuate their families from a building in Al Mawasi in southern Gaza, a former so-called “safe zone.” The victim, identified as Ramzi Abu Sahloul, had just spoken to ITV News explaining that he was trying to get his mother and brother out of the building.

Hartley-Brewer reflects that the clip makes for “good imagery” with “the flag on top” and admitted she had planned to discuss the “need to call out when Israeli soldiers commit war crimes.”

“Notice there’s no fear from the other people,” Parry said. “There’s been a sniper, apparently, who shot a guy. The other people are acting as if they’re on a stage set. They’re not running for cover. I mean, if you’ve been in any situation like that, none of the ingredients, including the ketchup, that’s been used as blood, I’m afraid are authentic.”

Circulation of the clip led to calls from opposition MPs in Commons on Wednesday for the government to condemn the shooting as a “war crime.”

The Israel Defence Forces (IDF), when approached by ITV News for comment, denied awareness of the incident. Questioned further, the IDF dismissed the video as “clearly edited” and refused to comment further.

Gaza can get aid when Hamas releases the hostages. Families of the hostages demand not a single item of aid be allowed into Gaza until all the hostages are released -- and block a border crossing to enforce their will.

Ah yes, justice through mob rule. Sure way to fall within the guidelines of international law.

Mid-November was a time period when Hamas checkpoints and snipers were shooting Palestinians attempting to flee north Gaza for safety in the south. Hamas wanted these people to stay in place so they could be used as human shields.

This video is just another example of criminality and terrorism by Hamas. It should also be a reminder that since 2005 Hamas has killed far more many Palestinians in Gaza than the IDF.

She was fleeing with her grandson, who was holding a white flag. Then she was shot

Istanbul CNN —
Sara Khreis replays the last day she spent with her mother over and over in her mind.

Their family had spent weeks agonizing over whether to flee as Israeli troops moved into Gaza City’s al-Rimal neighborhood, tanks rolling past their front door and a terrifying cacophony of bombs, quadcopter drones and gunfire thundering all around them.

After two nights of bombardment so intense they thought it might blow their home apart, they were resolved: they had to go.

“We woke up on November 12, the day that I will never forget my whole life. I remember every detail in it, minutes, hours, seconds,” Sara, 18, told CNN in a recent interview, holding back tears.

That morning was messy, she said. More than 20 people, relatives and neighbors, had holed up at their house as the war worsened. Sara’s 57-year-old mother, Hala, always so focused on taking care of everyone but herself, cooked a quick breakfast amid a flurry of packing up bags and made time to pray. Suddenly, they heard their neighbors outside screaming that an evacuation route had been organized: “Come on, get out, come on, get out!”

Sara with her mother, Hala. "My mother was all my life. My mother's life was dedicated to me and my siblings and my father. To her grandchildren, she was the loving 'Teta,'" Sara said.

The next thing Sara knew, they were throwing on shoes, and rushing out the door. She had a brief argument with her mother – now agonizing to recount – over whether she could help to carry her bag. Then they were on the street outside, joining a wave of other people holding white flags aloft: a universal symbol of surrender.

Out in front, a few paces ahead of the others, Hala was walking with her grandson, Tayem, then 4, holding hands as they navigated a street littered with debris, a white flag in his other hand. Seconds later, a shot rang out and Hala slumped to the ground.

That unthinkable moment was captured on camera. The video surfaced earlier this month in a report by UK-based news website Middle East Eye. Watching it makes Sara and her siblings feel sick.

The clip of Hala’s killing is one of a growing number that show unarmed civilians holding white flags being shot dead in Gaza. The Geneva-based Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor has said that they are investigating nine such incidents. CNN has examined four cases, including that of Hala Khreis.......
Continues....
The IDF has not commented on the family’s claim, but satellite imagery and photos from the same period reviewed by CNN show that Israeli troops were stationed in the area, including at a school just 200 meters (about 650 feet) down the road, to the west of where Hala was killed. Hala’s family said tanks were also positioned on the road in front of her, to the south.

The IDF initially dismissed the video, which was broadcast on January 23, claiming the footage "is clearly edited and we have no way to comment". But in an interview with ABC News, Brig. General Dan Goldfuss, commander of the IDF 98th Division, revealed they are now investigating the incident but remained adamant his troops do not fire at civilians, adding: "There are mistakes, it is war".
