Satoshi is Satoshi

What if he is one of many? I have this theory that bitcoin was actually a government project, like a socio-economic experience. Since Dorian did work on some secret government project, what if that was bitcoin? If so, he can't really say anything legally.

Quote from article:

"“I am no longer involved in that and I cannot discuss it. It’s been turned over to other people. They are in charge of it now. I no longer have any connection"

Also note: Interesting that one of his former co-workers quoted in the article is now head of L-3 Communications, which was involved in the creation of PRISM and other NSA projects.

And that would explain the white paper. They decided that they will crowd source the idea and someone wrote the white paper. Then maybe as a joke, they picked one guy's middle name as cover and that guy happened to be Dorian.

So he was involved, but not completely alone... If he really did it alone, I want an explanation for using his real name on the white paper...

Here, CIA coders taking a break, second from left is Dorian:

The timeline was compelling (starting the BTC algo after losing his FAA gig), but I am starting to question it.

From Reddit:

"The bitcoin cult is really being crushed by the news that that "mysterious creator" meant "sad old government worker" instead of "cool hacker elite with a plan"

"You've got holy scripture, whitepaper.
Ancient artifact, blockchain.
What happens when you criticize bitcoin? blasphemy.
Holy father, Satoshi.
Prophet to the father, Gavin."

-----------------------------------------------

Going back to my theory, they might have chosen 1 guy as the cover, if it ever gets revealed, so instead of the agency, just one falldown guy takes the fame/blame. Also that early they didn't think this project would ever really take off, so using a subcontractor's name wasn't such a big deal... Kind of similar to the Silk Road story when at the very earliest time Ulbricht used his real name and email...

The bottom line is, someone else picked his name to use and he didn't have a saying in the matter.(after all the SA(msung)TOSHI(ba) NAKA(michi)MOTO(rola) was a pretty good misdirection) Once it was out and bitcoin took off, the anonymity still lasted 5 years and legally he can't say anything on the topic...

I think you're on to something. It's either Dorian or someone who knows of his history. I am 55/45 in favor of it being Dorian. Motorola was always a US corp and he never worked for any of those companies. Nakamichi always made shitty, overpriced audio gear.

Update:

Satoshi is currently inside the Associated Press bureau in Los Angeles according to Joe Bel Bruno of the LA Times.
Update2 4:37pm EST: Satoshi has told an LA Times reporter that he is not the creator of Bitcoin

https://twitter.com/JoeBelBruno/status/441691185036283905

------------------------------

It is also possible that he worked in the same building but on a different project. When they needed a name, one of the government guys said: "Hey I know this Japanese guy from the 2nd floor with a funny name" and history was born. This Satoshi might have heard about it much later on, when he wasn't even working for them anymore... He was probably pissed, but he couldn't do anything about it... And since he is a very private person, he just kept it to himself, until now...

That Newsweek reporter is going to lose her gig.

If I had told you that the largest drug trafficking website was owned and ran by a 20 something kid from San Francisco who had 2 roommates and used the library to access his website, would you believe it? Of course only after you removed your blinder....

By the way slightly offtopic, but Dan Brown's (of DaVinci Code fame) first book from 1998 called Digital Fortress describes the NSA wiretapping and reading every email and electronic source by breaking every code in existence, and if you didn't sleep through 2013, you know that that is exactly what has been going on...

Quite good book, if the action is a little over the top...

It was more of a joke and all of conspiracy theories that are now flying around, don't get upset Pekky.

I'm well aware of the US .gov and how they like to listen in, I worked in telecom in the 90's and I saw 1st hand what they wanted access to for national security.

Unrelated, but I'm reading SNOW CRASH right now.

Does it really matter who created bitcoin? Everything is open source and the protocol is solid. Just as does anyone care who created the internet ?

They just need to leave the guy alone.

AP EXCLUSIVE: MAN DENIES HE'S BITCOIN FOUNDER

LOS ANGELES (AP) - The man Newsweek claims is the founder of Bitcoin denies he had anything to do with the digital currency. In an exclusive two-hour interview with The Associated Press Dorian S. Nakamoto, 64, said he had never heard of Bitcoin until his son told him he had been contacted by a reporter three weeks ago.

---------------------------------------

It is hard to believe that a guy with family and brothers haven't heard of bitcoin in the news or its mysterious inventor, who happen to have the same name as our uncle Dorian. Even if he doesn't watch the news, nobody else does in the family??? Unless they really don't know what the S. stands for in his name....

Here is Dorian mining the first coins:
