Quote from FredBloggs:
you have a point regarding the homeless and hungry.
however it has nothing to do with hate. it has everything to do with morals and the natural order of life.
the boy with 2 moms for example probably will not have a close male role model. he could start attaching himself to a male teacher or something - who in turn has no wish to be surrogate father to some kid. the kid feels rejected, confused, grows up with issues, etc.
i actually think its a bit selfish for homosexuals to want to raise kids, but thats another issue.
it just aint right.
Morals have nothing to do with it. I'm a straight man. However, if I were to find myself in a culture where my attraction to
adults of the opposite sex was viewed as immoral, I would be outraged. Sexual orientation is what it is. It is not consciously chosen and can only be immoral if there is a victim.
As to skewed role models and the natural order of life, what about the children of single parents?
And, finally, I think that two well-adjusted and loving adults who wish to adopt a child are anything but selfish. The selfish people are those who willingly abandoned their children, and those who impose their indoctrinated and self-serving views on others.
I will admit that the idea of same sex couples doesn't really do anything for me, perhaps as a result of my traditional upbringing. But empathy comes naturally to me despite my cultural underpinnings. Therefore, I think that any residual discomfort I may feel about same sex couples has more to do with me than with anyone else.
People are people. If they are not hurting anyone and are contributing to society in their own way, then they should be allowed to live their lives and pursue happiness just as anyone else.
P.S. I didn't vote in this poll one way or the other. I don't think it's wrong, but I still can't quite press the ok button just yet. I'm working on it.
