Safest States in America

So you all know the narrative, as has been a chronicle of sorts, blue states are badly run and horrible places to live but like almost every narrative that comes from the right it’s not true.

So we know blue states have healthy and better business climates, better education systems, health, wealth and life expectancy but now we can affirmatively add safety to the list as well, and it’s not even close.

That’s right blue states, by and large, have lower incidences of violent and property crimes, and more and better paid police. You don’t even need to tote your AR-15 to get a $5 foot long sandwich at your local subway in blue states. No rocket launcher needed to get a bagel either.

But please tell us all again how America should be more like the red states.

This is obviously not true. How you get tricked into believing that is incidence of homicide is more frequent the larger the city. For example, there may be 2 murders per day in a city of 15 million people but that is actually less per capita compared to 1 murder a day in a city of 500,000. The media you consume is actually misinforming you. This is why you see people with higher levels of education rejecting right wing media. It’s because the more educated you are, the easier it is to spot these kinds of fallacies.

It’s all about distribution. States with smaller population density tend to be more spread out. Small town rural living, microburbs. But there also tends to be more guns in these states. In some ways these red states with smaller densities the need for a gun is actually justified because they’re so dangerous. Look at the map below:

If I lived in the south, I’d be more worried about violence too. Look at the clustering of high murder rates. The problem is the higher rates of gun ownership directly correlates to higher murder rates. It’s an awful cycle.

But, that’s why you see this push for more looser guns laws coming from conservative states. They’re terrified of where they live. But try to understand in a blue state it sounds crazy to have so many guns because by and large it’s so much safer.
